Five Perfect Details from this McKinney newborn photography session

It was such a joy to witness this family welcoming their first child, Matthew, at this intimate in-home Dallas newborn session in Prosper, TX. This little boy was full of cuddles and sleepy smiles, and you can see perfectly just how enamored his mom and dad, Stephanie and David, are with him. 

As a McKinney newborn photographer, where the weather can be unpredictable or too hot, I love indoor sessions for infants. With in-home sessions like this one, it’s especially sweet to capture all the preparations a family has been making for their little one. 

There was so much to love about this session, from the wardrobe to the tiny baby toes. As a Plano newborn photographer, I wanted to talk about five details that made this session such a dream to shoot. 

White, White, and White

I often tell my clients you can never wear too much white, and this session is the perfect example of this rule. I love how flowy and feminine Stephanie’s cream-colored dress is compared to David’s classic white button down.

With Matthew’s oh-so-soft white muslin swaddle, everyone’s wardrobe reflects the natural lighting, an effect that not only brightens each photo but also accentuates that newborn glow. This family literally radiates with love! White is the perfect wardrobe color because it looks good on everyone and is always timeless.

Sweet, Personal Details

One of my favorite aspects about Mckinney in-home lifestyle newborn sessions is that it allows me to photograph in a space that is personalized for this little baby. You can see how Stephanie and David have been preparing for Matthew in every detail of this airy nursery.

Each little decoration—from the adorable wall art to the pattern on his crib sheets—is perfectly coordinated while appearing effortless. This family’s home, with its soft natural lighting, neutral undertones, and soft pops of color, exudes a sense of peace that mirrors the calming love these parents have for their little one and for one another. 

Fur Baby Included

As a Dallas lifestyle photographer, I get to meet a lot of family pets, and it’s one of my favorite parts of my job. Fur babies are part of your family too, after all! I loved that Stephanie and David wanted to include their sweet miniature dachshund, Sampson, as part of this photoshoot.

Having the session at their Prosper home made it easier to include their dog, who was comfortable in the environment so we could grab a couple shots of him interacting with his new little brother. 

Precious Baby Expressions

Can we talk about that sleepy newborn grin? I know everyone says it’s just a reflex smile, but I could have sworn little Matthew was grinning for the camera. Even though he was fussy at the beginning of the session, he eventually fell asleep and gave us so many dreamy keepsake photos for his future baby album.

Tangible Family Love

I tend to guide my clients through poses that feel and look natural, but Stephanie and David needed almost no prompting to show their love for one another. I could feel the connection this couple had not only with their new baby but also with each other. One day, these photos will allow little Matthew to see the love his parents had for him from birth.

They will also reveal the love his parents shared for one another before he was even old enough to understand it. I know from experience that children find enrichment in witnessing the love between their parents because it makes them feel safe and teaches them how to love in turn.

In these sweet photos between Stephanie and David, they’re already setting a perfect example of love for their little boy. Ultimately, capturing this kind of powerful love is what makes my job as a photographer so fulfilling.
